Your opinion matters to me, therefore I’d love your help choosing our newest candle scent…

When I brought out our original five scents I tried to make sure I covered all bases and had something for everyone’s tastes, which is why we have : fruity - Yorkshire Bramble , herbal - Herb Garden , woody - Into The Woods, fresh - Citrus Mint, and Floral - Wildflowers. We then added ‘Tis The Season as we obviously needed a festive scent and we also now have a Fig based scent and a summery orange candle too.

What do you think is missing from the collection, what are you favourite fragrances and what would you really love to see added to the range next?

I have a few ideas in mind but I’m happy to consider your suggestions too if I think they will work.

Don’t forget our fragrances are inspired by the beautiful Yorkshire countryside and surroundings so Oud won’t work! I get asked for this a lot by the way, and I always say Into The Woods has that oaky smoky woodiness to it if that’s your vibe.

MIXING TIMES 🥄

A crucial step in candle making is the amount of time you spend mixing in the oils to the wax. It must be mixed for at least 3 minutes so the fragrance binds to the wax, if you don’t do this, the oils can settle to the bottom and your candles won’t have a scent throw. I actually spend over 5 minutes mixing mine. My husband says I should automate this step but I won’t, I really enjoy this part, I meditate, think of new ideas and most importantly, I believe that when something is made with love, care and attention to detail - like when putting your heart and soul into cooking a meal for example, for some reason it will always taste better. That’s the logic I apply to my candle making anyway! Sending positive energy one candle at a time 💫

The swirls on this candle are just signs that a high quality natural wax has been used rather than cheap harmful paraffin. I also find that when a higher fragrance load is used the wax surface sometimes tends to set more unevenly. Some candles set completely smooth first time and some can be swirly or uneven. Either way it doesn’t affect the way the candle burns, but many chandlers use a gentle heat gun to level the surface as most customers prefer a smooth looking candle, especially when buying as a gift.
But why is it controversial? Because some makers believe that the heat gun burns off the fragrance. This definitely isn’t true, we aren’t using a blow torch - it’s a small heat gun especially designed for candle use, and as long you don’t use for more than a couple of seconds and not too close to the wax the fragrance isn’t affected. Our candles have a VERY powerful scent throw probably the strongest I’ve ever had and we use a heat gun on most of them, so I think this proves my point!
